My work explores identity formation and cultural transition by merging Hong Kong’s culinary heritage with British urban observation. Centered on the 1952 "flying bus" incident, this piece reimagines Tower Bridge as a site where memory and imagination converge.
I navigate my cross-cultural experience through two characters: Pineapple Cat, a personification of the iconic Hong Kong pineapple bun, and a Tuxedo Cat inspired by my observations of London’s feline residents. Together, they raise their hands beneath a full moon, lifting a double-decker bus through magic power—transforming a historical London moment into a surreal act of shared understanding.
Due to Hong Kong’s colonial history, London feels deeply familiar yet distinctly different. By placing a symbol of my roots alongside my current surroundings, the work acts as a creative practice to navigate change. Tower Bridge becomes a literal and metaphorical symbol, bridging the geographical displacement of migration. This interplay reflects a hybrid identity, creating a whimsical "third space" where belonging is found in the overlap of two worlds.
